Speaker: Stan Alves, O.A.M. Youth Mentoring Ambassador "Business and Youth Mentoring - the benefits"
Stan Alves is one of those rare individuals whose multifaceted ability has taken him from the elite sporting arena, into that of business management, back to sport and once more to the business world.
As an athlete Stan played 283 games with Melbourne and North Melbourne Football Clubs and has been awarded AFL life membership. Stan captained Melbourne from 1973 to 1976 and was appointed coach of the St Kilda Football Club in 1994. During the 5 years and 130 games with St Kilda Stan got the team to their first grand final appearance in 26 years.
Outside the football arena Stan has extensive experience in the areas of business management, development and communication. This experience has included roles as company director of a financial planning firm, sports commentator both on radio and TV, an author, an Australia Day ambassador and a motivational speaker.
Stan has a particular interest in youth mentoring, not only as a support for young people, but also as a valuable activity for businesses and their staff through mentoring each other as well as young people in their community. Stan supports the Victorian Youth Mentoring Alliance (VYMA) to promote the benefits of youth mentoring.
The VYMA is the peak body for youth mentoring in Victoria. It is an independent, not-for-profit organisation providing leadership and expertise to ensure the growth of quality youth mentoring across the State. The VYMA provides an effective mix of consultation, professional development, resource development and advocacy.
